For The Mind!
By
Linda Clements-Urick, C.Ht
What would you do
if money were no object? What would you do if you knew you could
not fail? Would you start a new business? Take a trip around the
world? Maybe you’ve always dreamed of living on a ranch in
Montana or becoming a Broadway star.
Whatever your
answer, science has shown that the more you think about and
imagine something, the more likely it will happen. An important
job of your subconscious mind is to “act out” any idea or
image that you allow yourself to have. Since logic doesn’t exist
in the subconscious mind, it does not distinguish between what is
real and what is imagined to be real. That means that when you
allow yourself to dwell on your fears, your subconscious goes to
work to create even more fear!
On the other
hand, when you imagine how you will feel, look and behave once you
lose that extra 25 pounds, stop smoking, make a lot more money, or
realize your life long dream, the subconscious “hears” you and
moves your life in that direction.
It is important
that the “feeling” of success accompany these imaginings. In
other words, if you are imagining that your biggest goal or
greatest dream is actually coming to pass, but you don’t feel
the joy in that accomplishment, then you need to tweak your
imagery experience until the emotion is there for you.
Try being more
specific to get to the deeper emotion. For instance, having a goal
of being happy may be too general. But finding the ideal mate,
living in a cottage on the beach or earning $150,000 a year are
specific and vivid. You can feel the energy of the right partner,
smell and hear the ocean and see and feel yourself living the
lifestyle a six-figure income would afford. Use all of your senses
to involve you in the imagery process in order to make it more
real to the sub-conscious.
Another powerful
tool, and a form of self-hypnosis, is writing down your goals and
desires. Studies have shown that when we write down our goals, we
have a 70% higher chance of accomplishing them. When we only think
about our goals without writing them down, we have a 7% chance of
realizing them. That is a powerful difference!
You can improve
your odds of accomplishing your goals even more if you write in
cursive or script rather than printing them out. Even the time of
day or night that you write down your goals can increase your
ability to achieve them. The most effective time to reflect upon
your goals and desires is just before you go to sleep. This is
because the last thought on the conscious mind at night, plays on
the sub-conscious mind all night long.
You can prove
this to yourself by telling yourself just before you go to sleep
that you have to get up the next morning by 6am. Now, don’t set
your alarm clock, just tell yourself what time you want to get up
or better yet, write it down. Then, watch what happens. Nine times
out of ten you will awaken minutes before the hour you set in your
mind.
From birth until
death, human beings move in the direction of their most dominant
thought. That means that if you think about ways to improve your
lifestyle, income, appearance or health, your mind will move you
toward actions that will bring those improvements into your life.
And when you do this repetitiously, it hastens the outcome.
Isn’t the human mind a wonder?
Success is rooted
in our thinking habits and the tools are available to help you
create the habits that make dreams come true. Are you programming
your subconscious to where you want to go?
If not, then
learn how to rewrite it with the help of hypnosis and imagery.
Make the coming year your best year yet! You could be on Broadway
before you know it or living on that ranch in Montana, and the
journey will be as enjoyable and fascinating as the destination!
